    How the quote process works

    1. Tell us about the shipment

Add the route, transport mode, cargo details, weight and dimensions. Attach a commercial invoice or packing list if you have one.

    2. We price your route

A freight specialist checks carrier options, routing and any customs or special-handling needs for your cargo.

    3. You receive your quote

Review the rates and shipping options, ask questions, and book when you are ready.

What we need for an accurate international shipping quote

Carriers charge for the space your cargo takes up as well as its weight, so exact dimensions matter as much as weight. The closer your details are to the real shipment, the closer your quote will be to the final invoice.

Details that affect the price, by type of shipment
    ShipmentDetails that affect your price
Air freightNumber of pieces, and the length, width, height and weight of each piece. Airlines bill the chargeable weight: the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Estimate it with our air freight chargeable weight calculator.
Ocean LCLTotal volume in cubic meters (CBM), gross weight, and whether the cargo can be stacked. LCL is priced per cubic meter or per 1,000 kg, whichever is greater.
Ocean FCLContainer type and number of containers (20ft, 40ft or 40ft high cube), the commodity and the gross weight per container.
Road freightNumber of pallets, their dimensions and weight, and pickup and delivery details such as residential addresses or liftgate needs.
Heavy equipment and vehiclesMake and model, dimensions and weight, and whether the unit can drive on and off (RoRo) or needs a flat rack or container.
BoatsLength overall, beam, height on the trailer, and weight including the trailer.

For every shipment, tell us the commodity, the cargo-ready date, your Incoterm, whether the goods are hazardous, and the cargo value if you want insurance.

    What a freight quote includes

Charges follow your cargo along the route. The legs your quote covers depend on the service type you choose, from port-to-port to door-to-door.

    1. Origin charges

Pickup, export documentation and filing, such as the Electronic Export Information (EEI) filed through AES for US exports, and terminal handling at the port or airport.

    2. Main freight

The air, ocean or road transport between origin and destination.

    3. Destination charges

Terminal handling, customs clearance if you ask for it, and delivery to the final address.

    Separate from freight charges

    Set by customs

    Duties and taxes

Set by the destination country's customs authority. They are separate from freight charges.

    On request

    Cargo insurance

Available on request, priced on the declared value of your goods.

International freight rates move with fuel surcharges, carrier pricing and available space, so freight quotes are valid for a limited time.

    Freight quote questions

Quick answers about requesting a quote from Faster Freight.

What information do I need to request an international freight quote?

You need the origin and destination (city, country, and ZIP or postal code for door service), the transport mode, a short cargo description, the packaging type, the total gross weight, the dimensions or total volume, and the date the cargo will be ready. A commercial invoice or packing list helps but is not required to get a quote.

Can I get an instant freight quote online?

Faster Freight prices each international request individually, because the rate depends on the route, carrier space, cargo size and any customs or special-handling needs. For a quick estimate of air freight costs, work out your chargeable weight with the calculator on our air freight page, then send the numbers with your quote request.

What is chargeable weight in air freight?

Airlines bill air freight on chargeable weight, which is the greater of the actual gross weight and the volumetric weight. Under the common IATA standard, volumetric weight in kilograms is length × width × height in centimeters divided by 6,000, so a light but bulky shipment is priced on its size.

Should I choose FCL or LCL for my ocean shipment?

With FCL (full container load) you book a whole container for your cargo. With LCL (less than container load) you share container space and pay per cubic meter or per 1,000 kg, whichever is greater. When a shipment gets close to filling a 20ft container, FCL is often the better value, so ask us to quote both.

    Which Incoterm should I choose?

The Incoterm decides who pays for and handles each part of the journey. Under EXW the buyer arranges almost everything from the seller's premises. Under FOB the seller delivers the goods on board the vessel at the port of loading, and under CIF the seller also pays ocean freight and minimum insurance to the destination port; both terms are for sea freight. Under DAP the seller delivers to a named place and the buyer handles import clearance, and under DDP the seller also pays import duties and taxes. If you are unsure, choose "Not sure – please advise" in the form and we will recommend one.

Why could the final invoice differ from my quote?

A quote is based on the details you send. The final invoice can change if the cargo is re-weighed or re-measured, if you add services such as residential delivery or a liftgate, if cargo waits in storage, or if containers are kept beyond the free time and incur demurrage or detention. Duties and taxes are assessed separately by customs.

Do I need documents to request a quote?

No. You can request a quote with estimated details. The commercial invoice and packing list are needed later to book the shipment and clear customs, and uploading them with your request helps us quote more accurately.

Can you quote door-to-door shipping with customs clearance?

Yes. Choose Door-to-Door as the service type and tick "Customs clearance needed". We arrange pickup at origin, the main freight, customs clearance through our licensed partner brokers, and delivery to the final address.
